The first step - a detailed diagnostic investigation - is mandatory. It enables the cardiologist to initiate effective therapeutic measures. This could simply be a change in lifestyle or the intake of medication but also - if necessary- invasive therapy. Modern cardiology provides various treatments for serious cardiovascular disease. I believe the most important thing is to select the right procedure and advise patients appropriately, as well as allay their fears and anxieties by providing accurate information.“

Professor Thomas Binder studied medicine at the Medical University of Vienna.
He trained as a specialist in internal medicine as well as cardiology at:
- First University Clinic of Medicine, Vienna, Austria
- Center of Rehabilitation in Bad Tatzmannsdorf
- Hietzing Hospital (formerly Krankenhaus Lainz)
- Department of Cardiology, Medical University Vienna / Austria
- Loma Linda Hospital in California/USA
Research and Science
Dr. Binder's research work brought him to the Huntington Memorial Research Institute in Pasadena, California. He is the author of several medical articles in renowned national and international journals, and has contributed to many publications in specialized medical literature. The focus of his research is the field of cardiac imaging techniques, especially heart ultrasound (echocardiography).
In 2000 Dr. Binder acquired his postdoctoral lecture qualification and an additional specialization degree in cardiology from the European Heart Association (ESC).
Appointments:
From 2000 on, Prof. Thomas Binder is serving as head of the echocardiography laboratory at the department of cardiology, Medical University of Vienna (AKH). Further appointments include the following:
- Member of the work group "Echocardiography" of the Austrian Society for Cardiology (ÖKG), of which he was chairman from 2007-2010.
- Deputy editor of the European Heart Journal for Cardiovascular Imaging
- Editorial board member of Hamdan Medical Journal/Dubai.
- Founding member and secretary of the European Cardiology Section Foundation (ECSF)
- Secretary of the European Board for Accreditation in Cardiology (EBAC, as well as the section Cardiology section of the Union Européen des Médicins Spécialistes (UEMS).
Teaching:
Teaching: Another point of focus of Dr. Binder's work is the education and training of cardiologists. He holds a large number of courses and seminars, both locally and abroad, and has established an e-learning platform for echocardiography: www.123sonography.com
